Alongside the character, the update also introduced a few new systems like pity for dungeon drops and a fishing mechanic, both of which are actually tied to unlocking and awakening Frieren’s weapon.
At first glance the process looks confusing because the materials come from different sources. Some items drop from the dungeon, while others are obtained through fishing. But once you understand the flow, unlocking Frieren becomes pretty straightforward.
This guide explains how to obtain the Frieren staff, how to awaken it, where to get the required materials, and how the new pity system works.
Anime Spirits Frieren Guide – Awakening Materials, Fishing
To begin unlocking Frieren’s weapon, you need to travel to the Event Island located in the First Sea.
The island is positioned directly in front of the Starter Island, making it easy to find even for newer players.
Once you arrive at the event island, you’ll notice a special dungeon portal dedicated to the Frieren update. This dungeon is the main activity tied to the weapon.
How to Get the Frieren Staff
The Frieren staff drops from the Frieren Dungeon located on the event island.
To obtain the weapon:
- Travel to the Event Island in First Sea
- Find the Frieren Dungeon portal
- Complete the dungeon repeatedly
- Wait for the staff drop
Like many dungeon rewards in Anime Spirits, the weapon is obtained through RNG. However, the developers added a pity system in this update to make grinding less frustrating.
This means you won’t be stuck grinding endlessly without eventually getting the drop.
How the Pity System Works
The pity system guarantees a drop after a certain number of dungeon clears.
The number of runs required depends on how new the dungeon is.
The system works like this:
- Newest dungeon: 100 clears for guaranteed drop
- Recent dungeon: 50 clears
- Older dungeon: 25 clears
Each time you complete a dungeon run, your pity counter increases. Once you reach the required number of clears, the game guarantees the item.
This change makes dungeon grinding much more manageable compared to older updates where players could get unlucky for hours.
How to Awaken the Frieren Staff
Once you obtain the staff, the next step is awakening it to unlock its full power.
Right next to the dungeon portal, you will find an Awakener NPC.
To awaken the weapon, you need:
- 1 Energy
- 10 Starlight Pearls
- 10 Mono Crystals
These materials come from two different activities: dungeon farming and fishing.
How to Get Energy and Mono Crystals
Both Energy and Mono Crystals are dungeon drops.
You can obtain them by repeatedly clearing the Frieren Dungeon on the event island.
Since you will already be farming the dungeon to get the weapon itself, you will naturally collect some of these materials along the way.
However, the third material required for awakening comes from a completely different mechanic introduced in the update.
How to Get Starlight Pearls (Fishing Guide)
Starlight Pearls are obtained through fishing, which is a brand-new system added to Anime Spirits.
To start fishing, you first need to purchase a special fishing rod.
Step 1 – Buy the Magic Fishing Rod
Go to the shop area and purchase the Magic Fishing Rod.
The rod costs:
20 Devil Trigger Fragments
Once purchased, equip the rod from your inventory.
Step 2 – Find Water
After equipping the rod, move near any body of water in the game.
Fishing works in multiple locations, so you don’t need a specific fishing spot.
Step 3 – Start Fishing
Throw the fishing rod into the water and wait.
After a moment, a minigame interface appears showing:
- A green bar
- A moving fish icon
Your goal is to keep the green bar aligned with the fish until the meter fills.
If done correctly, you will catch a fish or receive other fishing rewards.
Step 4 – Get Starlight Pearls
While fishing, you have a chance to obtain Starlight Pearls, which are required to awaken the Frieren staff.
Fishing can also reward other items such as fish used for pets, so not every catch will be a pearl.
You’ll need to fish until you collect 10 Starlight Pearls.
Returning to the Awakener
Once you have all the materials:
- 1 Energy
- 10 Mono Crystals
- 10 Starlight Pearls
Return to the Awakener NPC next to the dungeon portal.
Talk to the NPC and select the awakening option to upgrade your Frieren weapon.
After awakening, the weapon becomes significantly stronger and unlocks its full potential.
Frieren’s weapon is one of the more interesting event rewards Anime Spirits has added recently.
Unlocking it requires a mix of dungeon farming, material collection, and fishing, which makes the process feel more interactive compared to simply farming one boss repeatedly.
With the addition of the pity system and the new fishing mechanic, this update adds both convenience and variety to the game.
