Anime Apocalypse Eyepatch & White Reaper Abilities Guide

Published 1 Aug 2026, 5:46 pm · 7 min read

The latest Anime Apocalypse update is clearly leaning into Tokyo Ghoul, and honestly, the two new abilities are probably going to be the first thing most players want to test.

We now have Eyepatch and White Reaper, and after seeing both of their full movesets in action, they don’t feel like simple reskins with different animations. They play differently, their strongest moves shine for different reasons, and one of them definitely makes a stronger first impression.

Eyepatch has some really satisfying attacks and a great-looking Awakening, but White Reaper is where things start getting a little crazy, especially once you see the range on True Duality.

So, if you’re wondering which new ability is worth using, what every move does, or whether White Reaper is actually better than Eyepatch, here’s a breakdown of what we’ve seen so far.

Eyepatch Ability in Anime Apocalypse

Eyepatch is the Kaneki-inspired ability from the Tokyo Ghoul update.

The basic M1 attacks are fine. They aren’t really the part of the kit that’s going to sell you on Eyepatch, though. The ability becomes much more interesting once you start cycling through its actual skills.

What I like here is that Eyepatch doesn’t seem overly complicated. You can understand what most of the kit is trying to do pretty quickly, which should make it fairly comfortable to pick up even if you haven’t spent much time practicing with it.

Rampant Lunge

Rampant Lunge is one of Eyepatch’s base attacks.

The move launches an aggressive forward attack into the target. On its own, it doesn’t look like the most ridiculous ability in the update, but it fits the rest of the kit nicely.

It seems better suited to keeping pressure on an enemy rather than being the one move you’re building your entire combo around.

There also appears to be some potential AoE value when enemies are grouped closely, although the showcase didn’t make the exact effective area completely clear.

I’d treat Rampant Lunge as a solid setup or pressure tool rather than Eyepatch’s main attraction.

Tendril Barrage

Next is Tendril Barrage, and this one gets more interesting once you see it used repeatedly.

The attack can hit enemies from a useful distance and seems to depend somewhat on how well you aim and position it.

At first glance, it might not look spectacular, but I wouldn’t dismiss it. Once players get comfortable with its targeting, Tendril Barrage could end up being one of those abilities that feels considerably better in actual gameplay than it does during a quick showcase.

It’s a good middle-of-the-kit attack and gives Eyepatch another option when you don’t want to rely entirely on getting right next to an enemy.

Tragic Cyclone

Now we get to the move that really stood out.

Tragic Cyclone is probably the best part of Eyepatch’s regular moveset.

This is the attack that immediately makes the ability feel stronger. It has good area coverage and looks particularly useful when you’re dealing with enemies packed into the same space.

That’s important in Anime Apocalypse because a move doesn’t necessarily need the flashiest animation to be valuable. If it can consistently catch multiple targets and clear groups efficiently, you’re going to get plenty of use out of it.

Out of Eyepatch’s base skills, Tragic Cyclone would be the move I’d be most excited to have available.

Eyepatch V-Spec / Beast Move

Once you reach the required mastery, you can also access Eyepatch’s additional Beast/V-Spec move.

Visually, it’s fairly simple compared with the Awakening that comes later, but it gives the kit another attack to work into its rotation.

And that’s something Eyepatch does pretty well overall.

There isn’t just one attack followed by a bunch of filler. Even though Tragic Cyclone is the obvious standout, you still have several usable options for maintaining pressure while your other abilities are on cooldown.

Eyepatch Awakening and Ultimate

Eyepatch gets much more impressive when the Awakening comes out.

The transformation itself already gives the ability a lot more personality, but the Ultimate is the part worth watching.

It’s clean, flashy without becoming impossible to follow, and feels like a proper finishing attack rather than just another regular skill with a bigger effect attached to it.

The Ultimate might actually be one of my favorite things about Eyepatch visually.

That doesn’t automatically make Eyepatch the strongest ability, of course, but if you’re someone who cares about how satisfying an Awakening feels to activate, this one definitely delivers.

How Good Is Eyepatch?

Eyepatch looks like a very solid ability rather than an obviously overpowered one.

I’d put it around 7.5/10 based on the initial showcase.

Its biggest strengths are Tragic Cyclone, the overall versatility of the moveset, and a really clean Awakening/Ultimate.

The only thing holding it back is that not every base move has that same immediate impact. Some attacks feel more “good and usable” than genuinely exceptional.

Still, I wouldn’t sleep on it. Once players start figuring out proper rotations and positioning, especially with Tendril Barrage and Tragic Cyclone, Eyepatch could feel even better than it initially appears.

White Reaper Ability in Anime Apocalypse

Then there’s White Reaper.

This is where my opinion started shifting.

Eyepatch is good, but White Reaper’s moves immediately feel more threatening. Even the basic attacks have a different personality because the character appears to fight using two weapons during the M1 sequence.

It’s a small detail, but it makes the basic combat animations look much more interesting.

More importantly, White Reaper has some seriously strong-looking abilities behind those M1s.

Thundering Thorns

Thundering Thorns makes a great first impression.

It’s fast, visually satisfying, and looks genuinely useful rather than being flashy for the sake of it.

This was easily one of the better White Reaper base attacks during the showcase. If you’re comparing the first few moves of both new abilities, Thundering Thorns is one of the reasons White Reaper starts pulling ahead.

It’s the sort of move I can see being regularly worked into a rotation instead of saved for one very specific situation.

Towering Spikes

Towering Spikes is a little less exciting.

It isn’t necessarily a bad attack, but compared with Thundering Thorns, it doesn’t have the same immediate impact.

That’s probably going to make it one of those abilities players mainly use because it’s available in the rotation rather than because they’re waiting for its cooldown to finish.

Of course, actual damage numbers, enemy placement and future testing could change that opinion. Purely from the initial showcase, though, Thundering Thorns looks better than Towering Spikes.

Inescapable Rushdown

Things pick back up with Inescapable Rushdown.

As the name suggests, this is a much more aggressive attack and fits White Reaper’s overall style nicely.

The move gives you another way to pressure targets and makes the entire kit feel fairly active. You’re not just standing around waiting for one giant AoE attack to come back.

And then you unlock the move that really changes the conversation.

True Duality

True Duality is ridiculous.

If there’s one White Reaper move you should pay attention to, it’s this one.

The most impressive part is its huge AoE coverage. When activated around a group, the attack covers a surprisingly large area and looks capable of catching multiple enemies without requiring extremely precise positioning.

That immediately gives it obvious value for situations where you’re clearing groups rather than fighting a single isolated target.

It was strong enough in the showcase that after seeing it a couple of times, White Reaper already started looking better than Eyepatch overall.

This is the kind of skill that can make an entire ability worth using.

White Reaper Ultimate

Thankfully, White Reaper doesn’t fall apart when you get to its Ultimate.

Quite the opposite.

The White Reaper Ultimate is one of the highlights of the entire moveset, combining a big attack with the kind of animation you’d expect from a major finishing ability.

The showcase displayed a 645 damage number during the Ultimate, although I wouldn’t treat that as a universal fixed damage value. Your actual results can depend on how Anime Apocalypse handles stats, progression, targets and other modifiers.

Still, the initial performance looked very promising.

Between True Duality and the Ultimate, White Reaper has two attacks that immediately stand out instead of relying on just one excellent move.

How Good Is White Reaper?

Based on what we’ve seen, I’d give White Reaper around an 8/10.

It’s only slightly ahead of Eyepatch on paper, but the difference feels more noticeable when watching the abilities actually being used.

Thundering Thorns is strong, Inescapable Rushdown looks useful, True Duality has enormous AoE potential, and the Ultimate finishes things off nicely.

Towering Spikes is probably the weakest link, but the rest of the moveset does enough to compensate for it.

Eyepatch vs White Reaper – Which Ability Is Better?

If I had to choose one based purely on this initial showcase, I’d pick White Reaper.

Eyepatch isn’t far behind, and Tragic Cyclone is genuinely excellent. Its Awakening also has one of the cleaner Ultimate animations from the update.

White Reaper simply feels more complete right now.

The big difference for me is True Duality. Having that much AoE coverage gives White Reaper an attack that immediately looks useful for clearing groups, and its other skills are strong enough that you’re not completely dependent on True Duality either.

Here’s how I’d currently compare them:

The gap isn’t huge, though.

If you prefer Kaneki and want a moveset with a particularly strong cyclone-style AoE attack and a satisfying Awakening, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with going with Eyepatch.
