Effects, also known as Status Effects, are special mechanics that allow units to do much more than simply deal damage. Many of the strongest units rely on Effects to burn enemies, slow them down, stun bosses, or apply powerful marks that increase overall team damage.
Understanding how these Effects work is essential for building stronger teams and clearing difficult content.
Anime Expeditions Effects Guide – Types of Effects
Effects are special abilities attached to a unit’s attacks, passives, or skills.
Instead of only dealing direct damage, a unit can apply additional effects that continue influencing enemies after the initial attack.
Effects can:
- Deal damage over time
- Slow enemy movement
- Freeze or stun enemies
- Push enemies backward
- Increase damage taken
- Trigger powerful passive abilities
Many endgame units rely heavily on these mechanics to maximize their effectiveness.
Types of Effects
Anime Expeditions currently divides Effects into five major categories:
- Damage-over-Time (DoT)
- Soft Crowd-Control
- Hard Crowd-Control
- Marks
- Miscellaneous Effects
Damage-over-Time (DoT)
Damage-over-Time effects continue damaging enemies after the original attack lands.
Instead of dealing all damage instantly, these effects apply damage in small intervals called ticks.
DoT damage depends on:
- The unit’s damage stat
- Damage scaling
- Duration
- Tick rate
One important rule is that the same unit cannot stack multiple copies of its own DoT effect. However, different units can apply the same DoT simultaneously.
Bleed
Effect
- Deals 0.65× damage
- 6 ticks
- 6-second duration
Bleed inflicts steady damage every second, making it excellent against enemies with large health pools.
Burn
Effect
- Deals 0.5× damage
- 4 ticks
- 4-second duration
Burn is a reliable DoT effect commonly found on fire-based units.
Austere Flames
Effect
- Deals 0.75× damage
- 4 ticks
- 4-second duration
A stronger version of Burn that delivers higher overall damage during its duration.
Mana Burn
Effect
- Deals 0.5× damage
- 8 ticks
- 8-second duration
Mana Burn lasts much longer than most DoT effects, applying damage over an extended period.
Soft Crowd-Control
Soft Crowd-Control reduces enemy effectiveness without completely stopping their movement.
These effects usually have shorter cooldowns and can be reapplied more frequently.
Slow
Effect
- Reduces movement speed to 50%
- Lasts 5 seconds
- 5-second cooldown
Slow is one of the most valuable support effects because it gives your damage dealers more time to attack.
Stagger
Effect
- Interrupts enemy actions
- Delays movement
- Lasts 4 seconds
- 10-second cooldown
Stagger briefly disrupts enemies, helping prevent them from advancing normally.
Dismembered
Effect
- Permanently reduces movement speed to 85%
Unlike most slowing effects, Dismembered permanently reduces an enemy’s movement speed for the remainder of its life.
Hard Crowd-Control
Hard Crowd-Control completely interrupts enemy movement or forces enemies into disadvantageous positions.
These effects are among the strongest utility mechanics in the game.
Freeze
Effect
- Freezes enemies for 2 seconds
- Prevents movement
- Prevents actions
- 10-second cooldown
Freeze completely immobilizes enemies, making it excellent for difficult waves.
Rewind
Effect
- Pushes enemies backward
- Lasts 3 seconds
- 10-second cooldown
- Maximum 10 activations per enemy
Rewind gives your team additional time by forcing enemies back along the path.
Stun
Effect
- Prevents movement
- Prevents attacks
- Lasts 2 seconds
- 5-second cooldown
Stun is one of the most reliable forms of crowd control and works well against dangerous enemies.
Shadow Rewind
Effect
- Teleports enemies toward their starting point
- 1-second cooldown
- Maximum 3 activations per enemy
Shadow Rewind is one of the strongest displacement effects because it instantly moves enemies farther away from your base.
Marks
Marks are unique effects that remain attached to enemies and enable additional mechanics.
Unlike most status effects, Marks often interact directly with specific units.
True Saint Mark
Effect
- Applies a persistent mark
- Can trigger additional unit abilities
- 10-second cooldown
This mark is primarily used by True Saint’s unique passive mechanics.
Puppet Mark
Effect
- Enemies receive 20% increased incoming damage
- Maximum 3 applications per enemy
- 10-second cooldown
Puppet Mark is one of the strongest support effects because it increases damage dealt by your entire team.
Crimson Mark
Effect
- Explodes after 5 seconds
- Deals 15% of the unit’s current damage
- 10-second cooldown
Crimson Mark combines delayed damage with powerful burst potential against tougher enemies.
Miscellaneous Effects
Some mechanics don’t fit into the previous categories but still count as status effects.
Cocoon
Effect
- Surrounds enemies with a cocoon
- Applies Stun
Cocoon temporarily traps enemies, preventing movement while the stun remains active.
Best Effects in Anime Expeditions
Some status effects are considerably more valuable than others because of their impact during difficult stages.
S Tier
- Shadow Rewind
- Freeze
- Puppet Mark
- Stun
These effects provide exceptional crowd control or significantly increase your team’s damage.
A Tier
- Rewind
- Slow
- Crimson Mark
- Austere Flames
Excellent utility and consistent performance across most content.
B Tier
- Bleed
- Burn
- Mana Burn
- Stagger
- Dismembered
Useful effects that improve damage or crowd control but generally have less impact than higher-tier options.
C Tier
- True Saint Mark
- Cocoon
These effects are powerful only when paired with specific units or team compositions.
Effects add an important layer of strategy to Anime Expeditions by allowing units to control enemies, deal continuous damage, and support allies through powerful debuffs. A balanced team that combines high damage with crowd-control and utility effects will usually outperform a lineup focused only on raw attack power, making Effects an essential part of progressing through tougher stages and endgame challenges.
