Where to Get Demonite for the Skal Quest
Demonite only drops from Volcanic Rocks found in the Volcanic Depths. No other ore, location, or rock type can give you Demonite. This means the entire quest revolves around consistently mining volcanic nodes until all three pieces drop.
Volcanic Rocks don’t spawn in fixed spots. Instead, they appear randomly throughout the depth layer, so active searching is required.
Pickaxe Requirements to Mine Volcanic Rocks
Volcanic Rocks are much tougher than normal ore nodes. To break them, you must have a pickaxe with at least 100 base damage. Anything weaker won’t break them at all.
The two easiest options are:
- Arcane Pickaxe

- Any 100+ damage pickaxe you’ve unlocked earlier

There is no pattern or special indicator. Every volcanic node has a chance to drop Demonite, so the more you break, the faster you finish the quest.
Stack Luck Buffs Before Mining
Use every luck-boosting method available, including:
- Your highest-tier pickaxe
- Luck potions
- Luck-based achievements
These all combine to slightly increase drop chances.
Stay in the Volcanic Depths
Since Demonite is exclusive to volcanic nodes, there’s no reason to leave the area until you’ve collected all three.
Expect a Long Grind

How to Claim the Demonic Pickaxe Using Demonite
Once you have your three Demonite, return to the Skal Quest area. Inside the quest zone, you’ll find the Demonic Key requirement. Redeem your three Demonite by submitting them, and the quest will unlock the ability to buy the Demonic Pickaxe.
The Demonic Pickaxe costs 500,000, making it an expensive but extremely powerful upgrade. It’s widely considered one of the best pickaxes in the entire game, both for mining speed and damage output.
