Forgotten Stories Roblox Beginner Guide: 10+ Tips and Tricks
Published 29 Aug 2026, 6:16 am · 9 min read
Forgotten Stories is a Roblox turn-based roguelite that mixes combat, exploration, crafting, quick-time events, and character customization. At first, the game can feel like it throws a lot of systems at you, but once you understand how the basic mechanics work, everything starts to make much more sense.
In this Forgotten Stories Roblox Beginner Guide, I’ll walk you through the important things you should know when starting your first runs. We’ll cover inheritances, weapons, combat, the Library, quests, exploration, crafting, rare items, and what happens when you eventually die.
You don’t need to master everything on your first run. When I started looking through the game’s systems, the best approach was to learn one mechanic at a time, experiment with different weapons, and use each run to unlock more permanent progression. So, let’s go through the basics.

1. Choose Your Character and Inheritance
Before starting a run, you’ll have the opportunity to customize your character and choose an Inheritance.
Inheritances work somewhat like classes because they give your character different abilities and bonuses.
One of the inheritances available in the game is The Damned, which comes with several different options and effects.
Another option worth knowing about as a beginner is Jeweler.
Why Jeweler Is Useful for Beginners
Jeweler is helpful because it introduces you to the game’s quick-time event system.
The inheritance also gives you access to a necklace that allows you to see certain quick-time events during combat.
If you’re completely new to Forgotten Stories, this can make learning the combat system considerably easier.
I’d recommend taking some time to understand how your chosen inheritance works before worrying about creating the perfect build.
2. Learn Your Weapon’s Quick-Time Events
Weapons are a huge part of Forgotten Stories because different weapons don’t necessarily play the same way.

Each weapon can have its own abilities and quick-time events.
For example, the Greatsword has a relatively straightforward timing mechanic where you need to press the button at the correct moment.
Other weapons can have completely different timing requirements.
That’s why I’d recommend trying different weapons instead of immediately deciding that one weapon is the only good option.
3. Learn the Basic Combat Controls
Combat requires more than simply selecting attacks.

You’ll need to move, dodge, parry, and react to enemy attacks depending on the situation.
The basic controls include:
• WASD — Movement and dodging
• Space — Jump
• F — Parry
• Timing actions — Used for attacks and other abilities

The biggest thing that caught me off guard is that enemy attacks don’t always happen when their animation first starts.
Some attacks have delayed animations, meaning you may need to wait before dodging.
Don’t Dodge Too Early
This is one of the most important things to learn.
If you see an enemy starting an attack, don’t automatically dodge immediately.
Watch the animation and learn when the attack actually connects.

Once you recognize the patterns, combat becomes much more manageable.
4. Understand the Library System
The Library is one of the major long-term progression systems in Forgotten Stories.
During your runs, you can discover different books by completing specific actions or meeting certain requirements.
Each book provides a clue or requirement that helps you figure out how to unlock it.
This encourages you to experiment with different weapons, actions, and playstyles rather than playing every run exactly the same way.

What Do Library Books Do?
Books can provide useful bonuses such as:
• Increased Defense
• Higher Maximum HP
• Additional Stamina Regeneration
• Increased Resilience
• Bonuses that activate at low HP
These bonuses can carry into your overall progression, making future runs easier.
You can also use Ink to sign books.
Signing books can help make them easier to unlock or allow them to become available earlier during future runs.
Because of this, don’t ignore the Library.
Even if you fail a run, the progress you make toward unlocking books can still be valuable.
5. Start Your Run by Checking Quests
Once you enter a run, you’ll have several things you can work toward.
One of the first systems I recommend checking is the Quest Board.
Quests give you objectives to complete while you’re exploring the world.
Depending on the quest, you may need to:
• Clear a Bandit Camp
• Defeat enemies in a certain area
• Complete justice-related objectives
• Fight enemies in the forest
• Travel to specific locations
Quests are useful because they give your run some direction.
Instead of wandering around without a goal, you can look at your current objectives and decide where you want to go next.
Pay Attention to Quest Deadlines
Quests can have deadlines.
Because of this, don’t completely ignore the time available to you.
If you have several objectives, try to plan your route so you can complete multiple things while you’re traveling instead of constantly moving back and forth across the map.
6. Pay Attention to the Day and Night Cycle
Forgotten Stories also has a day and night cycle.
This adds another layer to exploration because the world isn’t always going to behave exactly the same way throughout your run.
When you’re planning your next destination, keep the time of day in mind.
You don’t need to understand every interaction with the cycle immediately, but it’s worth paying attention to as you explore.
7. Explore the Map Instead of Following Quests Only
The map helps you understand where your objectives are located, but you don’t have to follow the quest markers all the time.
You can explore different areas with your party and discover things that aren’t directly connected to your current quest.
During exploration, you can encounter:
• Random events
• Ingredients
• Camps
• Enemies
• Caves
• Resources
• New areas
The host can also control voting when traveling with a party.
This is useful if you don’t want every member of the group constantly deciding where the party should go next.
Don’t Be Afraid to Explore
Some of the more interesting discoveries can happen when you leave the obvious quest path.
If you have enough supplies and your character is strong enough, exploring side areas can give you additional resources and encounters that help with future progression.
8. Be Careful With High-Level Areas
Not every area is designed for a new character.
The Tundra, for example, can be dangerous if you enter it too early.
You can also find caves containing enemies, resources, and exploration events.
If your character isn’t ready, these areas can quickly turn a promising run into a death screen.
So, don’t assume that because you can physically enter an area, you’re supposed to be there immediately.
Explore Caves for Resources
Caves are particularly useful because they can contain materials needed for crafting.
If you’re preparing for stronger areas, exploring caves and collecting resources can help you improve your equipment before taking on tougher enemies.
9. Combat Requires Timing
Combat is one of the things that makes Forgotten Stories stand out from many Roblox RPGs.
You can’t simply spam attacks and expect everything to work.
You need to pay attention to enemy abilities and react appropriately.
Some attacks can be dodged, while others may be better handled with a parry.
For example, when an enemy fires an arrow, moving sideways at the right moment can help you avoid it.
Other attacks may have slower animations, meaning you need to wait before making your defensive move.
Learn Enemy Attack Patterns
The more you fight a particular enemy, the easier it becomes to recognize its attacks.
Once you know what an enemy is about to do, you can start preparing your dodge or parry before the attack actually lands.
This makes difficult fights feel much more manageable.
10. Use Quick-Time Events Properly
Quick-time events are another important part of combat.
When one appears, you’ll need to react at the correct moment.
Successfully completing these actions can improve the effectiveness of your attacks and abilities.
Missing them can leave you in a bad position, especially during difficult encounters.
If you’re struggling with the timing, don’t get frustrated.
The timing can feel unusual at first, particularly because different weapons can use different quick-time event mechanics.
You’ll get better at it naturally as you play more runs.
11. Gather Materials and Learn Crafting
Crafting is an important part of progression.
While exploring the world, you’ll find different ingredients and materials that can be used to create useful items.
Caves are especially valuable because they contain resources such as ores.
You can collect these materials and later use them for crafting.
What Can You Craft?
Depending on the available recipes and materials, crafting can be used for things such as:
• Armor
• Weapons
• Healing items
• Other equipment
• Items used to revive teammates
As you begin exploring more dangerous areas, crafting becomes increasingly useful.
Don’t ignore materials you find during your early runs.
They may become useful later when you’re preparing for a difficult encounter.
12. Use Storage to Keep Your Materials
You don’t necessarily have to carry every material with you throughout your entire run.
Forgotten Stories has a storage system where you can keep collected materials.
Stored resources can still be used for crafting, so you don’t have to fill your inventory with every ingredient you find.
This makes it much easier to manage your resources.
If you have materials you don’t immediately need, putting them into storage can keep your inventory organized while still allowing you to use them later.
13. Try Different Weapons During a Run
You’re not permanently locked into your starting weapon.
During a run, you can find or craft other weapons and switch to something that better fits your current situation.
This is one of the systems I recommend experimenting with.
Different weapons can have completely different abilities and quick-time events.
So, even if one weapon feels awkward at first, another weapon might immediately feel much more natural.
Don’t Build Around One Weapon Too Early
When you’re still learning the game, try several weapon types.
You may discover that you prefer a weapon you didn’t expect to enjoy.
This is also useful because different enemies and situations may favor different combat approaches.
14. Look Out for Rare Artifacts
Exploration can sometimes lead you to rare items and artifacts.
One example is the Wishbone.
You can find it while mining in certain areas, and it provides a significant Luck bonus.
However, there’s an important downside.
The Wishbone has a chance to break when you take damage.
This makes it a risky but potentially useful item.
If you find an artifact like this, think about whether the bonus is worth the risk for your current run.
15. Complete Quests for Extra Rewards
Once you’ve completed a quest, you can return to the capital and turn it in.
Quest rewards can include useful resources such as:
• Currency
• Materials
• Ink
• Other progression items
Ink is particularly useful because of its connection to the Library system.
This means quests aren’t just useful for immediate rewards. They can also help improve your long-term progression.
16. What Happens When You Die?
Death is part of the roguelite experience.
When your character eventually dies, the run comes to an end, but that doesn’t mean all of your progress disappears.
At the end of a run, the game gives you a summary showing what you accomplished.
You can review your progress and receive meta currency based on your performance.
This means even a failed run can still contribute to your long-term progression.
Playing With Other Players
Playing with other people can also provide additional rewards.
If you’re struggling to survive alone, joining friends or other players can make certain encounters easier while also giving you another way to progress.
So don’t look at a failed run as a complete waste.
Every run can teach you something about combat, exploration, crafting, or the game’s progression systems.
