Grand Blue Beginner Progression Guide – Get Fruits, Explore

If you are just starting out in Grand Blue, the game can feel like it has a lot going on at once. You have levels to grind, quests to complete, weapons and fighting styles to learn, Devil Fruits to find, and eventually even better ships to unlock.

In this guide, I will walk you through the beginner progression I recommend, including the best places to level up, how you can get a free Devil Fruit, where to find useful weapons, and why you should not ignore the game’s life skills. I will also cover some of the systems that are easy to miss when you first start playing.

You do not have to follow everything here perfectly, but if you are trying to progress faster without wasting too much time, these tips should give you a good starting point. So, let’s go through Grand Blue step by step and see what you should focus on as a new player.

The first thing you will see when you enter Grand Blue is the customization screen. While there are plenty of cosmetic options here, the two things you really want to pay attention to are your race and traits.

Both race and trait have different rarities, so getting a good roll early can be useful for your progression. If you are not happy with your trait, you can reroll it by using the reroll option in the customization menu.

If you do not have many rerolls available, make sure you use any active codes before spending resources. At the time of the guide, the working codes include Release and Twitter Goal Reach, which can give you useful rerolls and other rewards.

Once you get a trait you actually like, you can also use the trait storage option to save it instead of losing it when you reroll.

After finishing the tutorial, your first major goal should be getting through the early levels as quickly as possible.

For roughly Level 1 to 30, you can stay around the Beginner Town area and work through the available quests. You do not need to spend all your time looking for complicated activities because the game already gives you a straightforward progression path.

One useful area is behind the gate near the town. If you are too low level to open it yourself, talk to the NPC there and pay the required 25 Gold to open it.

If you have a higher-level friend, they can also help you get through the gate.

Once you enter the area, look for the repeatable quest. You can keep completing it to gain experience while also continuing with the main quest line.

The Captive Swordsman quest is another useful quest to work on. After taking it, you will need to deal with Axe-Hand Morgan, which gives you another good source of EXP while progressing through the early game.

I recommend following the main story while farming these repeatable quests rather than completely ignoring the story. This way, you can unlock the next areas while leveling at the same time.

Once you reach around Level 30, it is time to move toward Clown Island.

Grab your boat and sail over to Clown Town. If you have been following the main quest, you should naturally end up here as part of your progression.

Once you reach Clown Town, keep working through the mayor’s quests and the other quests around the island.

One of the best things to look for is the repeatable Johnny quest. This quest requires you to defeat the clowns around the area, including the Clown Officers.

Because the quest is repeatable, you can keep farming it for experience instead of constantly searching for new quests.

Later on, you should also unlock the repeatable Buggy Clown quest from the mayor. Once you have access to both repeatable quests, you can rotate between them and continue gaining levels.

This is the main method I recommend for progressing from around Level 30 to Level 70.

While you are in Clown Town, do not forget about the arm wrestling activities.

You can find the arm wrestlers around the center of Clown Town, inside the Clown’s Hub. There are different opponents to work through, starting with the beginner challenge and progressing toward the intermediate and champion versions.

These challenges can be surprisingly difficult if you are trying to spam-click manually, so an auto-clicker may make the activity easier if the game permits its use.

I would still recommend exploring the rest of the area while you are here because Grand Blue has a lot of quests and activities that are easy to miss.

Even after reaching higher levels, you may still discover NPCs and quests that you have never completed before.

Once you reach around Level 70, your next major destination should be Maple Island.

From the port around Clown Town, head toward the next island and continue following the main quest.

When you arrive at Maple Village, you will find more repeatable quests that can help you continue leveling.

There are multiple quests available around the area, so you do not necessarily have to rely on one single farming method.

At this stage, I recommend continuing with the main quest while using repeatable quests whenever you want additional EXP. You can always return later and complete side quests that you skipped.

One of the biggest questions most new players have is how to get a Devil Fruit without spending money.

Fortunately, Grand Blue gives you several ways to work toward one for free.

The first method is using codes.

After redeeming the available codes and playing for a certain amount of time, you can eventually reach the required playtime quota and claim a Fruit Chest.

The chest gives you a random Devil Fruit, so your result will depend on your luck.

You could end up with a common fruit, but if you get something like a Logia or Zoan, you have gotten a particularly good result.

Because codes are free, I recommend redeeming them as soon as possible.

There is also a one-time quest in the Beginner Town that can give you another Fruit Chest.

Look for the wizard near the blacksmith area and talk to him to start the quest.

You will need a shovel, so make sure you purchase one before starting the required tasks.

The wizard will send you around the area to collect different ores or objects. The quest is fairly straightforward because the game gives you information about what you need to collect and where to find it.

Once you finish the required objectives and return to the wizard, you will receive Calvin’s Treasure.

Despite having a different name, this essentially works as a fruit chest and can give you a random Devil Fruit.

For a beginner, this is one of the easiest free ways to get your first fruit.

The beginner quest is useful, but you should not expect it to be your long-term source of Devil Fruits.

Once you get further into the game, you will want to start farming Fruit Chests through treasure maps.

Treasure maps can be obtained from NPCs throughout the game. When you find one, complete the treasure hunt and work toward the rewards inside.

This is a much better long-term method because you can continue farming for more fruit instead of relying on a one-time beginner reward.

Another way to get Fruit Chests is through Celestial Coins.

Celestial Coins are a special currency that you can earn through different activities in Grand Blue.

One way to obtain them is by completing NPC quests that have a purple exclamation mark.

You can also earn Celestial Coins through the Achievements menu. Make sure you regularly check your achievements because you may have rewards sitting there that you have not claimed yet.

Once you have enough Celestial Coins, you can spend them on Fruit Chests.

Some of the better chests require a large amount of currency, so I recommend saving your Celestial Coins rather than immediately spending every coin you earn.

You can also earn Celestial Coins through world events, which makes these events worth participating in whenever they appear.

Grand Blue has several different weapons, and not every weapon is obtained in the same way.

Most of the basic swords can simply be purchased from shops as you progress through the islands.

For example, you can buy the Cutlass in Beginner Town.

When you reach Clown Town, you can also find weapons such as the Katana and Willow Blade.

These are useful as you progress through the early and mid-game, but if you are looking for a stronger sword, there is another weapon you should work toward.

The Last Love is currently one of the best swords to work toward.

Unlike the basic swords sold in regular shops, Last Love can only be purchased from the Smuggler.

You can find a Smuggler in areas such as Beginner Town and Clown Town, so keep an eye out for them while exploring.

If you are serious about using a sword as your main weapon, Last Love is a good long-term target.

Weapons are not the only way to fight in Grand Blue.

The game also has multiple fighting styles, and you can learn them from different trainers throughout the world.

The trainers teach you skills that are associated with their particular fighting style.

For example, you can use the Swordsman style and learn abilities associated with sword combat.

There are currently multiple fighting styles available, and some of their locations are not immediately obvious. As you progress, I recommend checking different islands and talking to NPCs instead of assuming every trainer is located in an obvious area.

Some skills can only be learned from specific NPCs, while others can come from skill scrolls.

Skill scrolls are another important part of progression.

As you defeat NPCs, they can drop different scrolls that allow you to learn additional skills.

This means that fighting enemies is not only useful for gaining EXP. You may also get useful abilities from the enemies you are already farming.

So, if you are grinding a particular NPC for levels, make sure you check the drops you receive instead of ignoring them.

Some skills are also weapon-specific.

For example, an ability such as Axe Spin requires an axe-type weapon to use properly. Other abilities are designed around claws, blades, or other weapon types.

Because of this, do not assume that every skill can be used with every weapon.

One of the easiest mistakes a new player can make is ignoring the game’s life skills.

Grand Blue includes activities such as:

• Mining

• Fishing

• Farming

• Cooking

These are not just random side activities. They can actually be useful for your overall progression.

Mining gives you ores that can be used for upgrading weapons and other equipment.

As you progress further into the game, having a supply of useful materials can save you from having to stop everything and go back to farm them later.

So, whenever you see mining opportunities while exploring, it is worth spending some time gathering resources.

Cooking can also be useful because the food you make can provide different buffs.

Instead of treating food as something you only use when necessary, you can prepare useful meals and take advantage of their bonuses while fighting or exploring.

The same idea applies to the other life skills. You do not need to spend your entire playtime doing them, but having some progress in these systems can make your overall journey easier.

Eventually, you will probably want to upgrade from your basic boat to a larger ship.

Once you reach Maple Village, look for the NPC named Mary.

Talk to Mary and choose the option to purchase a new ship.

The larger ship gives you more options when traveling around the world, and you can also customize it.

One of the more interesting features is the ability to use cannons.

You can mount the cannons on your ship, aim them, and fire them while sailing.

You can also drop the ship’s anchor by holding E, which is a nice little feature that makes the ships feel more interactive.

World bosses are another activity you should keep in mind as you progress.

These bosses spawn approximately every hour, giving players another opportunity to earn useful rewards.

World bosses can also provide Fruit Chests and Celestial Coins, making them especially valuable if you are trying to improve your Devil Fruit collection.

If you see a world boss event starting, it is usually worth participating instead of ignoring it.

You can combine these events with your normal progression rather than treating them as something completely separate.

If you are wondering what your overall progression should look like, I would keep it fairly simple.

Start by getting through the tutorial and setting up your race and traits. Redeem the available codes, then begin working through the main quests.

From roughly Level 1 to 30, focus on Beginner Town and its repeatable quests.

From around Level 30 to 70, move to Clown Town and farm the Johnny and Buggy Clown quests while continuing the main story.

Once you reach around Level 70, head toward Maple Island and continue progressing through the main quest and repeatable quests there.

At the same time, start working toward your first Devil Fruit through the free methods, then gradually move into treasure maps and Celestial Coin farming.

You should also upgrade your weapons, learn fighting styles, collect skill scrolls, and put some time into life skills as you explore.

Grand Blue has a lot more content than you might expect when you first join, so do not feel like you have to understand everything immediately.

Your main priority should be leveling and progressing through the story, but do not completely ignore the other systems. Getting a good trait, finding a Devil Fruit, learning useful skills, and upgrading your equipment can make a noticeable difference.

I also recommend exploring instead of simply rushing from one quest marker to the next. There are plenty of NPCs, hidden quests, trainers, shops, and activities spread around the islands.

Most importantly, do not spend all of your resources as soon as you get them. Save useful currencies such as Celestial Coins when you are working toward a valuable Fruit Chest, and keep an eye out for better weapons and equipment as you unlock new areas.

If you follow this progression, you should have a much easier time getting through the early game and building your character toward the mid and late game. Grand Blue is still expanding, so there will likely be plenty more systems, islands, weapons, and quests to discover as the game continues to grow.
