NPCs are an important part of Heavyweight Fishing because they aren’t just characters standing around the islands. Different NPCs are responsible for different parts of the game’s progression, including Boats, Rods, Skills, Traits, quests, and other useful mechanics.

In this Heavyweight Fishing NPC Guide, I’ll go through all of the NPCs currently available and explain what each one does. Knowing which NPC you need can save you a lot of time, especially when you’re looking for a new Rod, trying to buy Bait, or unlocking one of the game’s other systems.

I recommend talking to the NPCs whenever you reach a new island. Some of them can unlock new features or give you quests, while others provide important items you’ll need as you continue progressing through the game.

Here is the current list of NPCs and their main functions:

Nana is the NPC you’ll want to visit when you have Fish that you want to sell.

She buys Fish directly from the player, giving you a way to turn your catches into useful resources.

If you’ve been fishing for a while and your inventory is starting to fill up, Nana is one of the first NPCs you should look for.

Selling unwanted Fish can give you the Cash you need for things like Rod upgrades and other progression.

Chu Xin is responsible for Boats.

This NPC can sell and spawn Boats for you, which makes Chu Xin particularly important when you’re traveling between islands.

Since Heavyweight Fishing has multiple islands to explore, having access to a Boat is an important part of your progression.

Whenever you need to travel across the water, check with Chu Xin.

Biao Ge allows you to set your Spawn Point on different islands.

This is a very useful feature because you don’t always want to return to the same starting location after traveling somewhere far away.

Whenever you reach a new island that you’ll be spending a lot of time on, I’d recommend checking Biao Ge and setting your spawn point if the option is available.

That can save you a lot of unnecessary travel later.

Sage Yiju is the NPC you need when you’re looking for Fishing Skills.

Skills are an important part of Heavyweight Fishing because they can help you during battles with stronger Fish.

If you’ve recently unlocked a new ability or want to expand your Skill setup, Sage Yiju is the NPC you should visit.

As you progress further, learning how to combine your Skills with your Rod and Traits can become increasingly important.

The Quest Giver is an unnamed NPC who provides daily quests.

These quests are divided into Easy and Hard Ticket Quests.

The character doesn’t have a proper name in the game, but don’t ignore them just because of that.

Daily quests can provide additional objectives and rewards while you’re already progressing through the game.

If you’re looking for something extra to do after your normal fishing and island progression, checking the Quest Giver is a good idea.

Nanjang is responsible for Traits.

This NPC allows you to embed Traits into your equipped Fishing Skills.

Traits provide additional bonuses, so this becomes useful when you’re starting to customize your build rather than simply using whatever Skills you happen to unlock.

As you obtain better Traits and Skills, you can use Nanjang to improve your setup and make your abilities more effective.

Ba Chang is the NPC who sells Bait.

If you need more Bait for fishing, this is the character you should look for.

Bait is another useful part of your fishing setup, so don’t forget about this NPC when preparing for a longer fishing session.

If you’re planning to spend a lot of time fishing, making sure you have enough Bait beforehand can save you from constantly stopping your session to restock.

Biao Di is the Rod Seller.

This is one of the most important NPCs in the game because your Rod is one of your main pieces of progression.

You can visit Biao Di to check which Rods are available and purchase the ones you have access to.

As you move through different islands, you’ll find stronger Rods with better Power and Luck.

Whenever you reach a new island, I recommend checking the local Rod Seller to see if there’s an upgrade available.

Old Jiang is another Quest NPC.

He provides quests that you can complete as you progress through the game.

Whenever you see Old Jiang, it’s worth checking what objectives he has available. Quests are a useful source of progression and can give you additional reasons to explore the islands.

If you’re unsure about what you should be doing next, talking to quest NPCs like Old Jiang can give you another objective to work toward.

If you’re completely new to Heavyweight Fishing, you don’t need to memorize every NPC immediately.

I’d focus on a few important ones first.

Visit Biao Di whenever you’re looking for a better Rod.

Your Rod is one of the most important parts of your progression, so keeping it upgraded should be a priority.

Use Nana when your inventory is getting full of Fish.

Selling Fish gives you Cash that you can put toward upgrades and other purchases.
