Demonite is considered one of the rarest ores in The Forge. Unlike common resources you find early in the game, Demonite only comes from a specific type of rock and has a naturally low drop chance. Its rarity is intentional because it is tied to late-game crafting and high-tier gear progression. If you’re farming it, expect a slow but rewarding grind.
Where Demonite Comes From
Demonite only drops from Volcanic Rocks, which appear exclusively in the Volcanic Depths. No other biome, ore vein, or rock type can produce Demonite. If you aren’t inside the Volcanic Depths, you have zero chance of finding it.
Accessing this area requires you to be prepared for higher enemy pressure, stronger environmental hazards, and tougher resource nodes. This is the zone where the game expects you to have solid equipment before farming.
Pickaxe Requirements for Mining Volcanic Rocks
Volcanic Rocks are far tougher than normal ore nodes. To break them, you need a pickaxe that deals at least 100 base damage. Anything below that cannot mine the rock no matter how long you try.
The recommended tools include:
- Arcane Pickaxe
- Light Pickaxe
- Any pickaxe that meets or exceeds 100 base damage
These tools allow you to break Volcanic Rocks reliably and give you your only chance of pulling Demonite.
How to Increase Your Demonite Drop Chances
Since Demonite is extremely rare, you want every advantage possible. The game gives you three main ways to boost your luck:
Use a Better Pickaxe
Higher-tier pickaxes naturally offer better drop odds. Even if the damage meets the minimum requirement, upgrading your tool still boosts results over time.
Activate Luck Boost Achievements
Some achievements provide passive luck bonuses. Once unlocked, these improve your odds without needing any active input.
Use Luck Potions
Luck Potions temporarily increase the chance of rare ore drops. If you want Demonite specifically, combining potions with the Volcanic Depths grind is one of the most effective strategies.
Using all three together significantly improves your chances, especially during long mining sessions.
Efficient Strategy for Demonite Farming
Stay in Volcanic Depths Only
Do not waste time in other areas. Every moment spent outside of Volcanic Rocks is a moment you cannot get Demonite.
Mine Every Volcanic Rock You See
Because drop rates are low, consistency is everything. Clear every rock in sight before moving deeper.
Run With Buffs Active
If you have luck potions, use them during long sessions rather than short bursts. The consistency helps smooth out the RNG.
Keep Your Pickaxe Upgraded
If your pickaxe is borderline minimum damage, farming becomes painfully slow. Upgrading saves both time and mental energy.
Getting Demonite is meant to be a long grind, but once you understand how the system works, the process becomes much smoother.
