How to Get Giant Crystals in Mine a Mountain – Rune Setup

If you’ve seen another player’s plot in Mine a Mountain absolutely covered in enormous crystals and wondered how they’re getting them so consistently, there’s a trick to it. You can stumble into some pretty big crystals through normal mining, but that’s nowhere near the fastest way to build a plot full of monsters weighing 20, 30, or even 40+ tons.

The real star of the setup is the Agony Bomb.

Combine that bomb with the right runes, enough carry capacity, and a good place on the mountain, and you can blow open an area packed with giant crystals in seconds. Some of these crystals are fantastic for Luck, while the ones you don’t need can still sell for a ridiculous amount of money.

Here’s the full setup and, more importantly, how to avoid wasting an expensive Agony Bomb.

The easiest method for farming massive crystals is using an:

Agony Bomb

This bomb is particularly good because its explosion can generate a huge number of super-large crystals.

We’re not talking about crystals that are just slightly bigger than normal, either. With the right setup, you can get crystals weighing tens of thousands of kilograms from a single explosion.

One example from this method produced a crystal weighing:

20 tons = 20,000 kg

Another eventually reached 42 tons, which was so heavy that even a 30,000 kg carry capacity wasn’t enough to pick it up.

So yes, when I say giant crystals, I mean giant.

The catch is that the Agony Bomb isn’t always available.

You’ll need to watch the shop and wait for it to come into stock.

The good news is that when it does appear, you may be able to purchase several rather than being limited to a single bomb. In the showcased run, the shop had six Agony Bombs available during one restock.

If you’re buying with regular in-game currency, an Agony Bomb costs around:

$600 million

That’s obviously not cheap for a newer player, but once you’re far enough into progression, the crystals you get from these bombs can make the investment much easier to justify.

There’s also a Robux option, but I’d be careful here.

Buying one directly was shown at roughly 1,200 Robux, which is pretty steep for a consumable.

A potentially cheaper option is using the shop’s restock/refresh feature and trying to make Agony Bombs appear naturally.

The idea is simple: instead of spending around 1,200 Robux for one bomb, spend a smaller amount refreshing the store. If the Agony Bomb enters stock with multiple units available, you can potentially get considerably more value.

Of course, restocking is still RNG.

There’s no guarantee it’ll appear after a particular number of refreshes, so don’t treat this as a guaranteed discount.

This is something I’d sort out before using your bomb.

Agony Bomb crystals can get absurdly heavy.

The example setup had a base carrying capacity of:

30,000 kg

And even that wasn’t enough for every crystal.

If you detonate an Agony Bomb, see an incredible crystal sitting in front of you, and then discover that your character physically can’t carry it… yeah, that’s going to hurt.

Upgrade your storage/carry weight as much as reasonably possible before starting this farm.

There’s also a rune that can help, which we’ll get to in a second.

The Agony Bomb works on its own, but combining it with runes is where this strategy starts getting ridiculous.

The main setup uses:

• Preservation Rune

• Detonation Rune

• Colossal Rune

• Excavator Rune

• Weight Rune

• Luck Rune as an optional extra

You don’t necessarily need every single one, but the first few work extremely well together.

Start with the Preservation Rune.

Its job isn’t to directly increase crystal size.

Instead, it makes your other runes drain 50% slower.

In practical terms, your rune setup lasts much longer, giving you more time to use multiple Agony Bombs while your important bonuses are active.

This becomes especially useful if you’ve stockpiled several bombs and plan on doing one big farming session.

Next up is one of the most important pieces of the setup:

Detonation Rune

This makes bombs spawn 40% more crystals.

That’s exactly what you want when you’re using an expensive Agony Bomb.

You’re already detonating something designed to produce large crystals, so increasing the number of crystals generated gives you more chances at valuable giants from every bomb.

If I had a limited number of Agony Bombs, this is one rune I’d definitely want active before using them.

The Colossal Rune is where the size-focused part really kicks in.

The showcased Colossal Rune provided a:

68% chance to size up crystals

That’s a huge bonus for this particular strategy.

You’re combining a bomb known for generating large crystals with an effect that can make those crystals even bigger.

This is how you start seeing those absurdly heavy crystals that can dominate an entire plot.

The Excavator Rune increases your bomb blast by:

30%

A larger explosion means the bomb affects more of the surrounding mountain.

That’s another reason why bomb placement matters so much. You don’t want that increased blast radius disappearing into open air.

We’ll cover the placement trick shortly.

The Weight Rune isn’t required to make crystals bigger, but it solves another problem created by this setup.

Your crystals can become too big.

The Weight Rune increases how much weight you’re able to carry, making it much easier to collect oversized crystals after the explosion.

Remember that 42-ton crystal?

That’s exactly the sort of situation where you’ll be wishing you had more carrying capacity.

If your storage isn’t heavily upgraded yet, I’d strongly consider bringing a Weight Rune.

A Luck Rune can be added if you’re trying to improve the quality of your haul.

The Fortune Rune, however, isn’t doing what you might initially expect for this strategy.

Fortune affects sell value, so it isn’t necessary if your primary objective is generating giant high-Luck crystals to place on your plot.

Use it when selling is part of your goal, but don’t confuse it with a crystal-size increase.

No.

The showcased strategy used a large Luck multiplier, but that’s optional.

An Agony Bomb can still generate plenty of large crystals without purchasing extra Luck.

Additional Luck is more useful when you’re trying to push the quality of the crystals you’re getting rather than simply making them physically huge.

So don’t feel like you need to spend Robux on Luck just to make this method work.

You don’t.

Once your runes are active, head up the mountain.

The method shown favors areas around the:

Legendary Zone or Mythical Zone

It isn’t completely clear that you must use an Agony Bomb there, but higher areas are a good choice when you’re chasing valuable crystals.

There’s another detail that’s arguably more important than the exact zone:

Find a thick section of the mountain.

Don’t place your Agony Bomb against some skinny outer edge.

Think about what the bomb is actually doing.

If half of its blast radius extends outside the mountain, you’re wasting part of the explosion.

Instead, find a chunky section with plenty of rock surrounding your placement point.

Here’s a small trick that makes a lot of sense once you see it.

Don’t just drop the Agony Bomb directly on the surface.

Mine inward first.

You only need to create enough of a tunnel to get the bomb deeper into the rock.

Then place your Agony Bomb inside.

Why?

Because now the blast has rock surrounding it in multiple directions.

Combine that with the Excavator Rune’s increased blast radius and the Detonation Rune’s additional crystal spawns, and you’re giving that bomb a much better environment to work with.

After placing it, back away and wait for the explosion.

Then enjoy the mess.

The explosion creates an enormous cavity in the mountain and reveals a large number of crystals.

With the full setup running, you’ll start seeing some genuinely ridiculous crystal sizes.

In the showcased farming run, many of the visible crystals were Mythical, and several were enormous.

That’s when you want to start collecting quickly.

Just remember your weight limit.

One giant crystal can eat through a massive chunk of your backpack capacity by itself.

Here’s an easy mistake to make.

Don’t only look inside the crater.

Large crystals can fall downward after the explosion.

Once you’ve collected everything obvious around the blast site, jump down and check the lower portions of the mountain.

There may be valuable crystals sitting beneath you.

Considering how expensive an Agony Bomb can be, I’d absolutely spend another minute searching before leaving the area.

If the explosion creates too much clutter, use the Crystal Filter in your settings.

For example, you can filter the display so you’re primarily looking at Mythical crystals.

That makes it considerably easier to spot your best drops without having lower-value crystals covering the entire screen.

But don’t assume non-Mythicals are worthless.

Turning Legendaries back on can reveal plenty of additional giant crystals, and some can still sell for enormous amounts of money.

The filter is mostly there to help you prioritize.

Once your backpack is full, return to your plot.

A useful way to organize your haul is to:

Sort crystals by Luck.

Then start placing the best ones.

Some of the large crystals from this strategy had around 36% base Luck without mutations.

That’s already strong.

With a basic Poison mutation, similar crystals were reaching around 54% Luck each.

Now imagine filling an entire plot with them.

That’s where the strategy becomes more than a money farm. You’re essentially turning your plot into a huge Luck setup.

You have a couple of choices when dealing with mutations.

You could intentionally use something such as a Poison Bomb to give your crystals a Poison mutation.

Or you can leave the crystals as they are and wait for weather events that may give them better mutations later.

The second approach has more uncertainty, but it also gives you the possibility of landing something stronger.

If you already have an excellent giant crystal, I wouldn’t automatically rush into giving it the first mutation available.

Sometimes waiting is the better play.

Eventually, your plot is going to fill up.

At that point, keep the crystals providing the Luck bonuses you actually care about and sell the extras.

Even giant crystals below Mythical rarity can be worth serious money.

Some of the leftover crystals from this method were worth billions, despite not being Mythical.

That gives the Agony Bomb strategy two useful purposes:

You can farm huge Luck crystals for your plot while simultaneously collecting valuable crystals to sell.

Be careful when doing this in a public server.

If other players can grab your exposed crystals, don’t leave everything lying around while you casually set off another bomb.

Collect your valuable drops first.

In a private server, you have much more freedom. You can detonate several Agony Bombs while your runes are still active and come back afterward to collect everything.

That’s actually a very efficient approach because you’re maximizing the duration of your rune buffs.

In a public lobby, though, securing your loot should come first.

For an easy reference, the full strategy looks like this:

Bomb: Agony Bomb

Core Runes: Preservation + Detonation + Colossal + Excavator

Useful Extras: Weight + Luck

Recommended Area: Legendary or Mythical portion of the mountain

Bomb Placement: Inside a thick section of rock

Main Goal: Generate as many oversized crystals as possible while your runes remain active

If you’ve got several Agony Bombs ready, activate the runes first and use the bombs during the same farming session.

That’s where Preservation becomes particularly useful.

Very heavy.

The farming session produced examples around 20 tons, while one crystal reached approximately:

42 tons / 42,000 kg

That particular crystal couldn’t be carried with the available capacity at the time.

So storage isn’t some minor quality-of-life upgrade for this strategy.

It can literally determine whether you’re able to take your best crystal home.
