If you’re starting to explore the newer Harpoon Gun side of Fisch, the Fungal Harpoon Gun is one of those weapons that looks fairly ordinary from its raw stats but gets much more interesting once you notice its ability.

This thing is basically a Mushgrove Swamp weapon through and through. It’s covered in fungal growth, has a chance to give catches the Fungal mutation, and can even temporarily boost your Luck after catching something.

Better yet, you don’t have to complete a huge Bestiary requirement to get your hands on it. Bring 155,000C$, travel to Mushgrove Swamp, and find the right tree.

Here’s exactly where you need to go.

The Fungal Harpoon Gun is located in Mushgrove Swamp.

Unlike something sitting behind an obvious shop counter, you’ll need to look under a tree in the swamp.

The exact coordinates are:

2653, 132, -839

Travel to Mushgrove Swamp and make your way toward those coordinates. Once you’re there, check beneath the nearby tree and you should find the Fungal Harpoon Gun available for purchase.

The location is easy enough to miss if you’re wandering around without coordinates, especially with how much vegetation surrounds you in Mushgrove.

Thankfully, there’s no complicated quest attached to this one.

You simply need to:

• Get 155,000C$.

• Travel to Mushgrove Swamp.

• Head toward 2653, 132, -839.

• Look underneath the tree at that location.

• Purchase the Fungal Harpoon Gun for 155,000C$.

That’s it.

There isn’t a listed Bestiary percentage requirement or special challenge you need to finish beforehand. If you’ve got the money, you can head over and buy it.

Compared with some of the much more expensive Harpoon Guns, this is a fairly manageable purchase.

That makes it an interesting option if you’re getting into Harpoon Guns but aren’t ready to throw millions of C$ at one of the higher-priced choices.

And unlike a completely basic Harpoon Gun, you’re getting a couple of genuinely useful special effects for your money.

Here are all of its current stats:

Nothing here screams ridiculously overpowered on its own.

You’ve got 15 Power, a 64-stud Range, and a maximum capacity of 5,000 kg. Its projectile velocity is 15/ps, while each reload takes 5 seconds.

The real reason I’d pay attention to this Harpoon Gun isn’t those numbers, though.

It’s the ability.

The Fungal Harpoon Gun comes with special effects themed around the spores covering the weapon.

Its description gives you a pretty good idea of what’s happening:

“Coated in sporing flora, landing hits occasionally releases spores to grant temporary boosts.”

Those spores are tied to two notable bonuses:

30% chance for the Fungal mutation (4×)

and

50% chance to receive +50% Luck for 60 seconds after every catch.

That’s a lot more interesting than simply having another Harpoon Gun with slightly different Power or Range.

The Fungal Harpoon Gun has a 30% chance to apply Fungal, which comes with a 4× multiplier.

A 30% chance means you should see the mutation reasonably regularly over enough catches, although obviously it isn’t guaranteed on every attempt.

That’s an important distinction.

Don’t buy the Fungal Harpoon Gun expecting every catch to suddenly receive a 4× multiplier. Think of it as a bonus that has a decent chance of triggering as you continue using the weapon.

When it does activate, however, that 4× multiplier is the standout part of the gun’s mutation effect.

Here’s the other part I really like about the Fungal Harpoon Gun.

Every catch has a:

50% chance to grant +50% Luck for 60 seconds.

So half of your catches, statistically speaking over a large enough sample, can trigger a temporary Luck buff.

The buff lasts an entire minute.

That creates a nice little rhythm when using the weapon. Make a catch, potentially trigger the Luck bonus, and then you’ve got a 60-second window where you’re running with an extra 50% Luck.

It’s one of those abilities that’s easy to overlook if you’re comparing Harpoon Guns purely through their stat tables.

No.

The effect has a 50% activation chance per catch.

So you aren’t guaranteed +50% Luck whenever you successfully catch something.

Sometimes it’ll activate immediately. Other times you might go through multiple catches without seeing it.

That’s normal RNG rather than the ability failing to work.

Once the effect does trigger, the Luck bonus lasts for 60 seconds.

The raw numbers are more of a mixed bag.

Its 15 Power is respectable, but the weapon only reaches 12% Accuracy and has a fairly slow 5-second reload.

while its Velocity is:

15/ps

You do at least get 10% Resilience, so there’s a positive Resilience stat rather than a penalty.

The maximum weight is 5,000 kg, which is another limitation worth considering depending on what you’re planning to hunt.

Basically, I wouldn’t choose the Fungal Harpoon Gun because you think its raw stat sheet is incredible.

I’d choose it because of what happens when its abilities start activating.

The Fungal Harpoon Gun can handle catches weighing up to:

5,000 kg

Keep that limit in mind before deciding this is going to be your answer for every large sea creature in Fisch.

As you progress toward significantly heavier targets, you’ll eventually want Harpoon Guns capable of handling much larger weights.

For the content where 5,000 kg is sufficient, though, you’ve still got access to the Fungal mutation and temporary Luck ability.
