The Veil Race Tier List – Best and Worst Races Ranked

Published 8 Sept 2026, 6:14 am · 7 min read

Choosing the right race in The Veil can make a noticeable difference to your build. Some races give excellent damage bonuses, while others are much better for tanks, casters, summoners, or players who want extra survivability.

After looking at the abilities, bonuses, penalties, and different build synergies, some races clearly stand above the rest. A race that is amazing for a magic build might be nearly useless for a summoner, so the best choice also depends on how you want to play.

That said, a few races are simply more reliable than others. Veilborn stands out as one of the strongest overall choices because of its powerful scaling, while races such as Goblin and Underling offer excellent benefits for specific builds.

Below, I’ll rank the races mentioned in the tier list and explain what makes each one good, bad, or worth using.

The Veil Race Tier List – Best and Worst Races Ranked

Here is the overall ranking:

S-Tier

• Veilborn

A-Tier

• Oberlite

• Goblin

• Underling

• Gem Head

B-Tier

• Wraith

• Mushling

C-Tier

• Skeleton

• Hiveling

• Human

S-Tier – Veilborn

Veilborn is easily one of the strongest races in the tier list.

The biggest reason for this is its interaction with the Weave mechanic. Normally, reaching the maximum Weave effect requires building up five stacks, but Veilborn reduces this requirement to four.

That means you can reach your stronger scaling effects faster.

Each Weave provides a significant boost, giving 7.5% universal damage and speed per Weave. Being able to build these stacks quickly makes Veilborn incredibly reliable for scaling during combat.

You also receive:

• 10% Insanity

• A powerful night-only skill

• Faster access to maximum Weave benefits

• Universal damage scaling

• Speed scaling

The combination of damage and mobility makes Veilborn extremely versatile. Unlike races that only work for one specific type of build, Veilborn provides benefits that can be useful in many situations.

For overall performance, this is the race sitting at the top.

A-Tier – Oberlite

Oberlite is an excellent choice for players who want to become extremely difficult to kill.

This Epic race provides several powerful defensive bonuses, including:

• 10% Resistance

• 10% Stun Resistance

• An Exert Energy ability

• An additional 15% Resistance while using its berserk effect

When everything is working together, Oberlite becomes incredibly tanky.

The downside is that you have to deal with a 10% Speed penalty and stamina drain. This means the race is not ideal for players who want maximum mobility.

However, if your goal is to create a tank build and survive as much damage as possible, Oberlite is one of the best choices available.

The defensive benefits are simply too strong to ignore.

A-Tier – Goblin

Goblin is one of the best choices for dedicated magic players.

Its biggest advantage is the cooldown reduction, giving you:

• 10% lower cast cooldown

• 10% cast damage

• 20% Luck outside combat

The cast damage bonus is lower than what Underling offers, but Goblin makes up for it by helping you cast abilities more frequently.

For players with a strong spell rotation, reduced cooldowns can make a huge difference.

The 20% Luck bonus outside combat is another valuable benefit, making Goblin useful beyond just combat situations.

If you enjoy constantly casting spells and putting pressure on enemies with repeated abilities, Goblin is easily an A-Tier choice.

A-Tier – Underling

Underling is another fantastic race for magic builds.

Unlike Goblin, Underling focuses more heavily on raw spell damage.

It provides:

• 15% Cast Damage

• 25% Fire Resistance

• 10% Regeneration

The 15% Cast Damage bonus makes Underling especially effective for players who want to deal as much damage as possible with spells.

This can be particularly useful when fighting bosses, where consistent high damage is extremely valuable.

You are not supposed to play Underling as a traditional tank, but the Fire Resistance and Regeneration bonuses still give you some additional survivability.

For pure caster damage, Underling is one of the strongest options available.

A-Tier – Gem Head

Gem Head is a specialized race designed for summoner builds.

Its bonuses include:

• 10% Summon Damage

• 15 Summon Life

This makes Gem Head one of the best choices for players who want their summons to do the majority of the work.

Your summons become stronger and gain more survivability, allowing them to remain active longer during fights.

However, this specialization is also Gem Head’s biggest weakness.

Outside of a summoner build, the race is much less useful. You will not receive the same value if your character relies primarily on direct weapon or spell damage.

If you are committed to being a dedicated summoner, Gem Head deserves its A-Tier placement.

B-Tier – Wraith

Wraith is a straightforward and reliable race, especially for newer players.

Its main ability gives you a 5% chance for an incoming hit to pass harmlessly through you.

This effect is entirely RNG-based, so you cannot depend on it every time.

Sometimes it may save you during an important fight, while other times it may never activate when you need it.

Despite that inconsistency, Wraith is still a solid choice for beginners.

Players who are still learning how to dodge and use I-frames can benefit from having an occasional defensive safety net.

It is not one of the strongest races in the game, but it performs consistently enough to earn a B-Tier placement.

B-Tier – Mushling

Mushling is focused heavily on regeneration and survivability.

Its bonuses include:

• 10% Regeneration

• Increased Healing

• The Decompose skill

The Decompose skill helps make Mushling a much more viable option.

The general idea behind the race is simple: survive damage, regenerate health, and outlast your opponent.

When played properly, Mushling can be extremely difficult to bring down because of its sustain.

However, it does come with a downside.

You receive 10% lower stamina regeneration, which can become a serious problem if you are not managing your stamina properly.

If your stamina runs out at the wrong moment, your strong survivability may not be enough to save you.

Overall, Mushling is a good sustain-focused race and deserves its B-Tier position.

C-Tier – Skeleton

Skeleton provides some useful offensive bonuses, but its defensive downside is difficult to ignore.

The race gives:

• 10% Speed

• 10% Summon Damage

• 10% lower Resistance

The speed bonus can be useful, and summoners may appreciate the additional summon damage.

However, losing 10% Resistance makes the race significantly more fragile.

For most builds, the defensive penalty is simply too costly compared to what Skeleton gives you in return.

Gem Head is generally a much better choice if you are focusing on summons, while other races offer better overall benefits without sacrificing as much survivability.

For that reason, Skeleton lands near the bottom of the tier list.

C-Tier – Hiveling

Hiveling is a race with bonuses that can feel very inconsistent.

It provides:

• 10% Damage

• 10% lower Attack Speed

• Resistance benefits at night

• 10% lower Resistance during the day

The problem is that its performance changes depending on whether it is day or night.

At night, the additional resistance can be useful. During the day, however, the resistance penalty becomes a serious disadvantage.

The 10% damage bonus is nice, but losing attack speed makes the race less appealing for many offensive builds.

Because its strengths depend heavily on the time of day, Hiveling struggles to provide consistent value.

It fills a specific niche, but overall it belongs in C-Tier.

C-Tier – Human

Human is one of the simplest races available.

Its main benefit is:

• 5 maximum HP per Prestige level

This means the race scales your health as your Prestige increases.

For players who want a larger health pool and additional survivability, this can be useful.

However, compared to the powerful damage, resistance, cooldown, and special ability bonuses offered by other races, Human feels relatively limited.

It does one thing and does it reasonably well, but it lacks the versatility that pushes other races into higher tiers.

Because of that, Human sits in C-Tier.

Which Race Is the Best in The Veil?

Based on this tier list, Veilborn is the strongest overall race.

Its ability to reach the maximum Weave effect faster gives it powerful scaling advantages. The combination of universal damage and speed makes it useful for a wide variety of builds.

However, the best race for your character can still depend on your build.

Best Overall Race

Veilborn

Best Tank Race

Oberlite

Best Magic Damage Race

Underling

Best Magic Cooldown Race

Goblin

Best Summoner Race

Gem Head

Best Sustain Race

Mushling

Best Beginner Defensive Option

Wraith

The Veil has several races designed for very different playstyles, so there is no single race that is perfect for every build.

Veilborn stands at the top because its bonuses are powerful and versatile. Oberlite is an excellent choice for tanks, while Goblin and Underling dominate the magic-focused options.

Summoners should strongly consider Gem Head, and players who prefer surviving through regeneration can get plenty of value from Mushling.

Meanwhile, races such as Skeleton, Hiveling, and Human have more noticeable limitations that make them harder to recommend over stronger alternatives.

Your build should always influence your final decision, but if you are looking for the strongest overall option from this list, Veilborn is the race to beat.
