Universal Tower Defense X just dropped its massive 2.0 update, and if you’re just starting out, it can feel like a lot. There are units, traits, relics, evolutions, and multiple game modes thrown at you almost immediately. So instead of overcomplicating it, think of this as a simple path—from starting with nothing to actually reaching endgame farming.
Step 1: Get Your First Good Units
When you first load into Universal Tower Defense X, don’t worry about meta or secrets yet. Your only goal is to get a solid legendary unit.
The two best beginner options are:
- Shakumira
- Admiral (Akainu)
These are not just starter units—they evolve into mythics and stay useful for a long time. Admiral is especially good because of his burn damage and confusion, which helps a lot in early stages.
If you’re lucky, you might also get:
- Rogue Oni (from early rewards)
At the same time, make sure you get:
- Fastcart (farm unit)
This is important. Fastcart gives you money during matches, which speeds up everything.
Also, use all available codes early. They usually give enough gems to pull at least one good unit and a farm unit.
Step 2: Finish Story Mode (Easy Settings Only)
Now don’t try to rush difficulty.
Play story mode on low modulation (around 75% or lower) so enemies are weaker. Your goal here is not challenge—it’s progression.
Go through:
- Ninja Force
- Marine Base
- Hollowed Moon
When you reach flying enemies, you’ll need:
- A unit that can hit air
or - Just get carried (which is completely fine early on)
By the end of story mode, you should:
- Gain levels
- Unlock rewards
- Have enough resources to move forward
Step 3: Level Rewards = Your First Big Power Spike
This is where most beginners miss out.
Go to Level Milestones and claim everything.
This is your main source of:
- Gems
- Trait rerolls
You’ll also get rewards from:
- Achievements
- Quests
This alone can give you hundreds of rolls and thousands of gems if you just claim everything properly.
Step 4: Get Your First Mythic (Very Important)
Now you’re aiming for your first real carry unit.
The best early mythics are:
- Kenpachi → Hybrid, strong DPS, armor shred
- Kito (Kriatu) → Insane scaling, best for Virtual Realm
Kenpachi feels strong immediately.
Kito feels weak early but becomes very strong later.
If you don’t get them:
- Keep farming story
- Keep claiming rewards
- Keep summoning
You don’t move forward until you get at least one of these.
Step 5: Start Farming Challenges or Legend Stages
Once you have your mythic:
You now farm:
- Half-hour challenges (best for rerolls)
- OR
- Legend stages (best for macro farming)
Simple difference:
- Challenges = faster rewards
- Legend stages = AFK friendly
Your goal here:
- Get evolution materials
- Evolve your main unit
Evolving Kenpachi or Kito is a massive power jump.
Step 6: Traits (Don’t Overthink, Just Get Basics First)
Now you start rolling traits.
Focus on:
- Duelist → Kito (very important)
- Ruler or Sacred → DPS units
- Fortunate → Fastcart
Don’t chase perfect traits yet.
Just get:
- “Good enough” damage traits
- Fortunate on your farm unit
That’s enough to move forward.
Step 7: Start Farming Relics (Huge Power Boost)
Now you move into Nightmare mode (75%).
This is where the game really changes.
You’re looking for:
- Damage relics
- Hyper armor damage
- Damage over time
Relics can increase your damage massively. A good relic can make an average unit feel strong.
Step 8–9: Build a Real Team
Now you start adding proper units.
Look for:
- Virtual Idol (Miku) → best buffer
- Spade / Ace → strong DPS
Once you evolve these, your team starts feeling complete.
At this point, you’re entering mid-game.
Step 10: Optimize Relics + Start Endgame Farming
Now you go back and farm relics again, but this time:
- You’re min-maxing stats
- You’re upgrading relics fully
Focus on:
- Buff potency (for support units)
- Damage stats (for DPS)
- DoT stats (for burn units)
This step takes time, but it’s what separates mid-game from endgame.
Endgame: Farming Rerolls Properly
Now you unlock the real grind.
Farm:
- Featured Challenges → gives rerolls
This is where you:
- Perfect traits
- Max your units
You can also do:
- Virtual Realm (harder, but better rewards)
Important Mechanics You Should Understand
Stat Points
Every level gives stat points.
Put them into:
- Cooldown (best for DPS increase)
- Damage (for strong hitters)
- Range (for support units like Miku)
Etherealization
Instead of selling duplicates:
- Use them to upgrade your unit
This:
- Unlocks passives
- Increases stats
- Makes units much stronger
For example:
- Miku gives stronger buffs
- DPS units deal more damage
- Farm units generate more money
