Grand Blue Cooking Guide – Recipes, Skill Tree & Rebirth

If you want to make food in Grand Blue, Cooking is one of the life skills you can work on. You can prepare different meals that restore HP and, in some cases, give you useful buffs for activities like mining, farming, fishing, or combat.

To start Cooking, you need to head to Maple Village and enter the mansion. You’ll find a kitchen inside with a Cooking Station. Once you interact with it, you can either add your ingredients manually or use the Cookbook to select a recipe you have already unlocked.

In this guide, I’ll go through the available Cooking recipes, their ingredients, buffs, Cooking times, and EXP rewards. I’ll also explain the Cooking skill trees, level milestones, and Rebirth skills so you can decide where to spend your points.

Grand Blue Cooking Guide – Recipes, Skill Tree & Rebirth

Cooking is available at the kitchen inside the mansion in Maple Village.

Once you reach the kitchen, look for the Cooking Station and interact with it. You can place ingredients into the station yourself, or press G to open the Cookbook.

The Cookbook shows the recipes you have unlocked. Recipes are unlocked automatically as you gather the ingredients required to make them, so you don’t need to manually unlock each recipe beforehand.

Cooking is useful beyond simply restoring HP. Several meals provide temporary bonuses that can help with other life skills or combat.

Cooking Materials

Cooking isn’t only about making meals. You can also produce materials from certain ingredients.

Oil

Oil is an Uncommon Cooking material made with 1 Sardine.

The resulting item is described as a flask of oil rendered from sardines. It burns easily and can be used for crafting.

Cooking Skill Tree

The Cooking skill tree gives you several ways to improve your efficiency. You can focus on making the Perfect Window easier to hit, saving ingredients, improving food effects, or speeding up your cooking.

There are four main branches:

  • Steady Hand
  • Thrifty Cook
  • Rich Flavor
  • Hot Stove

Each branch contains five normal ranks and a final special skill.

Steady Hand

Steady Hand is focused on making the cooking timing easier to manage.

Skill Cost Effect
Steady Hand I 1 The Perfect Window stays open 10% longer
Steady Hand II 2 The Perfect Window stays open 10% longer
Steady Hand III 3 The Perfect Window stays open 10% longer
Slow Simmer 3 Your food burns 15% later, giving you more time after the Perfect Window closes. Rank 2 increases this to 30%
Steady Hand IV 4 The Perfect Window stays open 10% longer
Steady Hand V 5 The Perfect Window stays open 10% longer
Chef’s Instinct 5 Gives a 25% chance for a merely-good pull to come out Perfect anyway

If you struggle with the timing mechanic, this is one of the more straightforward branches to invest in. The extra Perfect Window time gives you more room to make a successful pull.

Thrifty Cook

Thrifty Cook focuses on saving ingredients and getting more value from each cooking attempt.

Skill Cost Effect
Thrifty Cook I 1 +4% chance a finished dish returns one ingredient
Thrifty Cook II 2 +4% chance a finished dish returns one ingredient
Thrifty Cook III 3 +4% chance a finished dish returns one ingredient
Waste Not 3 50% chance that scraping your own burnt pile rescues one ingredient. Rank 2 increases this to 100%
Thrifty Cook IV 4 +4% chance a finished dish returns one ingredient
Thrifty Cook V 5 +4% chance a finished dish returns one ingredient
Second Helping 5 25% chance a collect cooks a second copy of the dish

This branch is especially useful if you’re trying to stretch your ingredients further. The final skill, Second Helping, can also give you an extra copy of a dish when you collect it.

Rich Flavor

Rich Flavor improves the effects of the food you cook.

Skill Cost Effect
Rich Flavor I 1 Dishes you cook have 5% stronger food effects
Rich Flavor II 2 Dishes you cook have 5% stronger food effects
Rich Flavor III 3 Dishes you cook have 5% stronger food effects
Hearty Meals 3 Meal buffs from your dishes last 15% longer. Rank 2 increases this to 30%
Rich Flavor IV 4 Dishes you cook have 5% stronger food effects
Rich Flavor V 5 Dishes you cook have 5% stronger food effects
Gourmet Touch 5 Perfect dishes you cook gain another 50% potency

If you’re already relying on Cooking buffs regularly, Rich Flavor can be a good direction because it improves the value you get from your meals rather than simply making them faster.

Hot Stove

Hot Stove is the speed-focused Cooking branch. Its skills reduce the time needed to cook dishes.

Skill Cost Effect
Hot Stove I 1 Dishes reach cooked 5% sooner
Hot Stove II 2 Dishes reach cooked 5% sooner
Hot Stove III 3 Dishes reach cooked 5% sooner
Rolling Boil 3 A Perfect dish makes your next dish cook 25% faster. Rank 2 increases this to 50%
Hot Stove IV 4 Dishes reach cooked 5% sooner
Hot Stove V 5 Dishes reach cooked 5% sooner
Flash Sear 5 Gives a 20% chance for a dish you start to be ready almost instantly, with the golden window immediately behind it

This branch makes more sense if you plan to cook frequently and want to reduce the time spent waiting for dishes.

Cooking Level Milestones

As you level up Cooking, you can earn rewards at several milestones.

Milestone Requirement Reward
Novice Cook Reach Cooking Level 10 500 Gold + 100 Celestial Coins
Adept Cook Reach Cooking Level 25 1,500 Gold + 250 Celestial Coins

Rebirth gives you another way to improve your Cooking setup. These skills cost Rebirth Tokens, and they provide effects that aren’t part of the normal Cooking skill tree.

Rebirth Skill Cost Effect
Seasoned Chef 1 Rebirth Token Gain +20% Cooking EXP per rank

Portable Chef 1 Rebirth Token Places a temporary Cooking Station wherever you stand. It lasts 5 minutes and has a 60-second repack cooldown

Which Cooking Skills Should You Pick?

Your choice depends on how you want to use Cooking.

If you often miss the timing window, Steady Hand is the easiest branch to understand because it gives you more room to hit Perfect.

If ingredients are difficult to collect, Thrifty Cook can help you get more value from the materials you already have. The chance to recover ingredients and eventually produce an extra dish can be useful when you’re cooking repeatedly.

For stronger food buffs, Rich Flavor is the better choice. This becomes more interesting when you’re using meals for their temporary bonuses rather than only eating them for HP.

If you want to cook as quickly as possible, go for Hot Stove. Its bonuses reduce Cooking time, while the later skills can create opportunities to cook dishes much faster.

For Rebirth Tokens, Seasoned Chef, Batch Cooking, and Portable Chef are particularly focused on improving the overall Cooking process, while Salvage and Flame Whisperer’s Return give you some protection against failed or burnt dishes.

Cooking is a useful life skill in Grand Blue because the food you make can do more than restore HP. Some dishes provide bonuses for Mining, Farming, Fishing, combat, regeneration, and even underwater exploration.

I recommend checking the ingredients you already have before deciding which recipes to focus on. Once you know which meals fit your playstyle, you can build your Cooking skill tree around making those dishes faster, stronger, or more efficient.

As more recipes and Cooking content are added, the two currently unrevealed recipes may also expand the options available to cooks.
